Project Manager

WGA Project Managers are responsible for preparation and coordination of all technical activities on assigned projects. The Project Manager plans, schedules, conducts and coordinates assigned engineering work, monitors work for compliance to applicable codes, accepted engineering practices and standards, and ensures effective communication and coordination on assigned projects between all disciplines and all other project consultants.

The Project Manager is the main point of contract in the day-to-day interaction with the Client’s designated representative, jurisdictional agency personnel, as well as coordination of all internal activities performed by engineering staff.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting and coordinating the technical aspects of projects
  • Accountable for the successful completion of engineering projects
  • Assist in the preparation of engineering project proposals
  • Budget monitoring and trend tracking
  • Participating in Client/Contractor meetings and resolving technical project issues
  • Ensure effective engineering and Client communications

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering
  • Four or more years of experience post-graduation

Skills and Special Requirements/Licensing:

  • Registered Professional Engineer license required
  • 5-10 years of experience as a civil engineer with a focus on land development projects; a minimum of 3 years leading projects
  • Strong knowledge of the Houston Metroplex and surrounding vicinities
  • Technical and project management experience in civil and land development engineering design
  • Experience in technical writing of deliverables including work plans, quality program documents, summary reports and project correspondence as required
  • Must exhibit strong project management and leadership skills and be expected to maintain client relationships and continued development of project work
  • Experience with AutoCAD software and proficient with MS Office
  • Ability to identify work priorities and function with very little supervision
  • Capable of independent and team work environments
  • Demonstrate proven oral and written communication skills
  • Must possess a strong detail-oriented work style and an accommodating and proactive attitude

Project Designer (AutoCAD Designer)

WGA Project Designers are responsible for providing civil engineering design support to project management staff for commercial, retail and office site development projects, single- and multi-family residential land development projects, and municipal projects. Skill set to include performing engineering design, preparing plans, reports and specifications, coordinate with team.

The successful candidate must have Land Development experience in preparation of plans for site developments. Must have an understanding of the permitting process for the City of Houston and Harris County, and experience in obtaining signatures through the City and County departments. A minimum of 5 years of experience with AutoCAD. Knowledge and use of MicroStation is a plus. Must be able to take survey data and produce base maps for background to plan and profile sheets using proper coordinates and drawing orientation. Must be able to show CADD proficiency at the interview.

Responsibilities:

  • Work from architectural site plans or land planning documents to produce construction documents in AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013
  • Be proficient in preparing plan and profile drawings using Civil 3D
  • Understand and use established company standards for drafting including layer names, line and character styles, drawings and window names, and file names for sheet layout
  • Analyze sketches, notes and other input material to determine and plan the best approach to develop and complete drawings with minimal supervision
  • Inform Project Manager(s) and Client Managers of progress on assigned projects and communicate design concerns with project managers
  • Flexible in work and team assignments

Education/Experience:

  • Associates Degree or Diploma in Computer-Aided Drafting and Design from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Three or more years of experience using AutoCAD 3D for civil design site work
  • Extremely proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D; candidates with Civil 3D experience are preferred

Project Engineer

WGA Project Engineers are responsible for assisting Project Managers and Project Designers in the preparation and coordination of engineering design items. The primary role of the Project Engineer is to complete engineering designs and construction plans.

Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of project permitting applications and reports
  • Civil engineering design to include: Site Plan Layout, Grading Design, Drainage System Design, and Utility System Layout and Design
  • Assist in the preparation of preliminary engineering and drainage reports, construction documents, cost estimates and permitting coordination
  • Erosion and Sedimentation Control Plan Layout
  • Pond and Best Management Practice (BMP) Design
  • Administration of Construction Phase Services
  • Represent WGA in meetings with Review staff to discuss project specifics and clear permitting comments
  • Attend industry events and become involved in the community as a representative of WGA

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering
  • Two or more years of experience post-graduation

Skills and Special Requirements/Licensing:

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) license required; PE preferred
  • At least three years of progressive design experience in land and site development, particularly in preparing plans and design production
  • Experience in all phases of site development engineering including grading, drainage, utility and roadway design
  • Previous experience working with Municipality Utility District projects and working with agency approvals with municipalities, such as City of Houston, Harris County, and Harris County Flood Control
  • Prior work with Houston-area land development consulting firms preferred
  • Strong AutoCAD knowledge
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess strong skills with Civil 3D
  • Self-starter

Graduate Engineer

WGA Graduate Engineers are responsible for assisting Project Engineers and Project Designers in the preparation and coordination of engineering design items.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare permitting application packages and engineering reports
  • Performing site research and preparing due diligence reports for new projects
  • Conduct field visits to understand existing site conditions and confirm accuracy of third-party survey
  • Attend meetings with Project Engineers and Project Managers to meet public review staff
  • Prepare and revise project schedules under the direction of a Project Manager
  • Coordinate and execute plan distribution when project submittals and updates occur
  • Utilize AutoCAD to address review comments and prepare plan updates
  • Utilize Arc GIS to prepare site investigation and project report exhibits
  • Attend industry events and become involved in the community as a representative of WGA

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering

Skills and Special Requirements/Licensing:

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) license obtained or scheduled to sit for exam
