ABOUT THE PROJECT

Ameriport Business Park is a 723-acre master-planned commercial/industrial development complex managed as part of the Chambers County Improvement District #2. Located east of Baytown and in close proximity to the Port of Houston, this business park provides opportunities for warehouse/distribution, rail terminal, and trans-loading facilities. WGA designed the 3,000-LF roadway extension of Ameriport Parkway and Transport Drive to provide direct access to developing properties within the business complex. These two roadways are an integral part of the infrastructure required for the successful development of the Ameriport Business Park, providing much-needed transportation access to the developments.

Since the alignment of Ameriport Parkway crosses a major pipeline corridor as well as a rail spur line, WGA designed the parkway to accommodate a future rail spur that will provide additional rail service to the development properties. Coordination of the Ameriport Parkway design required close coordination and a complex approval process with the many pipeline companies that had interests within the corridor.

The alignment of Transport Drive is directly adjacent to the Coastal Water Authority (CWA) canal that borders the southeast side of the business complex. WGA coordinated the Transport Drive design with the CWA to ensure that the new construction would provide ample opportunity for additional access points that would allow CWA to better maintain its facility. WGA responsibilities for the project included preparation of plans, specifications and cost estimates as well as providing calculations and determining sizes for appropriate drainage facilities to serve the roadways. WGA used active project management to ensure the active rail spur was not disrupted during roadway construction. WGA continues to serve as the MUD engineer to Chambers County Improvement District #2 as well as the consultant engineer to National Property Holdings and Ameriport.
