ABOUT THE PROJECT

WGA assisted Powell Industries in the development of a manufacturing facility and office building to serve as its new headquarters. The office building is a 78,000-SF, three-story facility and the manufacturing building totaled more than 216,000 SF in area. These buildings feature four depressed loading docks and nearly 400,000 SF of curb and gutter concrete parking areas.

Drainage for the facility is collected into a network of storm sewer inlets, conveyed via a sub-surface storm sewer pipe system into the 12.2 acre-foot stormwater detention facility. Stormwater is released into the municipal storm sewer system via an innovative outfall system that allows the outfall to flow beneath three private pipelines carrying volatile material.

Water and sanitary sewer systems were also designed to serve the development but the designs were complicated by the conflict with the same three volatile pipelines. Each utility was carefully crafted to minimize construction costs while also fully protecting the existing pipelines.
