WGA named one of “2023 Largest Houston Area Civil & Structural Engineering Firms” by Houston Business Journal

Making HBJ’s top civil engineering list is a significant achievement for any engineering firm or professional, and making it for the first time in one of the largest cities in the US is a very special moment to our firm. It is a recognition of our team’s exceptional work in designing the infrastructure that shapes our city and state that we have been dedicated to building over the last 15 years since WGA’s inception. Making the top civil engineering list is not just a badge of honor; it is also a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of everyone at WGA who is committed to making a positive impact on our world. To capture this monumental moment, we interviewed our Founders and Managing Partners, Ryan Getz and Steven Ward.

  1. How does making the list of “2023 Largest Civil Engineering Firms in Houston” make you feel?

“I feel incredibly fortunate to have built and grown our firm with so many talented people. I get the sentiment of feeling so fortunate that you feel like you don’t deserve it. That’s how having grown WGA makes me feel, beyond fortunate but incredibly grateful that our staff and clients have been so good to us.” (S. Ward, personal communication, March 10, 2023)

  1. What was one of the biggest hardships/hurdles in growing WGA?

“To me, the biggest hurdle in growing WGA was building and crafting our leadership team to serve all the members of the firm.  To make an organization strong, you must have everyone live and work based on CORE values.  In order to propagate that throughout the team, it must start with that tone at the top.” (R. Getz, personal communication, March 10, 2023)

  1. What is something you are most proud of regarding WGA’s growth?

“Easily our people. Having so many wonderful people entrust their careers and development with us, makes me very proud. I particularly enjoy watching the friendship and interactions develop among them and seeing how strong those bonds have become.” (S. Ward, personal communication, March 10, 2023)

  1. What are some words of wisdom you would give to new business owners/entrepreneurs?

“Always be curious and check your ego at the door.  There are no perfect decisions, only tradeoffs of unintended consequences, so always stay grounded.” (R. Getz, personal communication, March 10, 2023)
